I like being able to edit the graphics using GIMP but I still had to edit the themes manually so the tags would display. There is a plugin that displays Technorati tags but I wanted the tags to pull up articles within my site.
On the whole, these themes are good for many users that do not want to create a theme AND the Adsense Ad placements DO get clicks.
These themes could use templates within the theme that would allow users to move the Archives and BlogRoll to pages so the template word count is lowered. Having the BlogRoll on an internal page also lets you use it as a tool for building reciprocal links.
I was very disappointed in this product. The author shows you how to quickly install the blog using Fantastico and that is done well.
When you are shown how to edit permalinks so the posts have an .html extension, you are not told this does NOT apply to pages. Permalinks are for posts only.
All pages you create in WordPress have no extension at the end and the page title becomes part of the URL unless you save a draft and edit the slug.
The author also recommends deleting the code in the files that relates to comments and RSS Feeds. This is a useless exercise unless you want to repeat the process every time the WordPress script is updated and that’s about every 2 months. You can disable comments on each page you create by unchecking a box.
By not messing with either the theme code or the core code, you are making it easier for novice webmasters to create a static looking website that’s easy to upgrade and the blog functionality sits there ready to use when they are ready to enjoy the true power of this script.
RSS Feeds should be enabled on static sites AND WordPress blogs because you can submit the feeds to feed aggregators to passively generate website traffic and backlinks. Pages aren’t normally included in your RSS Feed but the plugin RSS include pages solves that problem.
