Griffin | | Category: | | Review Title: Installation Gremlins - Revisited | | Date Reviewed: July 12, 2007 | | Reviewer: Chris Redman | I down loaded the Media Autoresponders software with excitement. Having looked at one other package and found it easy to install, I imagined this would be just as simple.
The install instructions are a few apparently simple steps for uploading and modifying a few of the files to access your sites webmail etc.
Perhaps it’s me but I found the instructions complicated. When opening the files to be modified the confusion became greater. Finnally after some long time I eventually got to the point of logging into the control panel for the software, upon entering the usernane and password I had assigbed according to the instructions I was told that I had to enter a username. I checked in all the files, including the MySQL database and tried again.
Some hours later I still can’t get into the system. I tried to get it to mail my usernam,e and password to me but hey It tells me that either the username or password is incorrect.
I am going to give it one more try, by uninstalling it and starting again. Who knows the gremlins may just vanish.
I have tried to find on-line help but have not been successful. I did find a customer support site but when looking at the various topics there I could not find a single entry. I did submitt a ticket so let’s see if I get a reply, and if it helps.
So I believe the system needs a more detailed instalation document and more comment lines in the files you have to edit.
Perhaps given that it may be a good system!!
After the above I found a support site for the software and posted a ticket. Shortly after I got a reply which suggested that the globals setting on my host was not set to "on". I contacted my host and they reset it and YES I got on.
Then I encountered problems with the cron jobs and after some time with the help of my host got that sorted.
Now I am setting up the responder mails. Whilst the mails themselves seem to run correctly when I try to upload attachments they fail. Yet again I contacted support and got a reply but the fix did not work. I will let you know how I progress with this.

Latest news.
I have received some great help via the support service. I can now upload attachments to the system so now I am about ready to put the system onto my new site. I will keep you informed. | |

We certainly need more detailed documentation ... not just a 2-page instruction setup.

| | Comment By: Chris Redman | Comment Date: August 08, 2007 | Well it's 8/8/07 and I still have not had an answer from the developers as to how to solve the problem.
I noticed that there has been a comment about a new version coming out.
I am getting desperate to get the system working correctly as I have had to set my ad campaign in motion and will be forced to use and alternative responder very soon. |
| | Comment By: Jayant Patil | Comment Date: July 19, 2007 | Hi Chris,
Thanks for the details. I am also stuck like you and unable to set up the global setting to "ON". Will you please guide me by giving the support url & advice. I checked my web site control panel and could not locate the global setting parameter. Best regards, Jayant |
| | Comment By: Barry Ramlow | Comment Date: September 12, 2007 | | We are glad you were able to get great support, but your "documentation" of WHERE the rest of us can get it is lacking. |
| | Comment By: Alan Brown | Comment Date: April 30, 2008 | Downloaded and installed in about an hour. Was up and running and sent test emails. started receiving them today.
I guess the main problem most people will have is with the documentation. You DO need to look carefully at how your sql database is set up and what is names your username - it changed mine - especially in cPanel.
Agreed, the doc is limited but setting it up is not too difficult if you have an html editor like 1st Page 2000 as it colour codes the html code and makes it easier to read. |
| | Comment By: Ricky Ly | Comment Date: October 23, 2008 | This message is to Alan Brown and anyone who is using this product successfully...
I bought this product and I got it to install on my server after a long several days to looking at other tutorials.
However, I am trying to integrate it into my webpage and forms, and have not succeeded.
Would you help me get mine working? I would really appreciate it... Thank you. |
