Interview By: Jeremy Gislason
Interview Date: 07-Oct-05

Q. Please tell us a little about your background.
I have been a freelance writer and business owner for the past 12 years mostly freelancing from Elance.com. I also have 15 years experience in the corporate world as a trainer and technical writer and I am a Paralegal.

Q. What made you decide to start a website in the field?
I wanted to try and attract long-term clients, maybe even more corporate clients.

Q. What kind of research went into this niche area before building your website?
Not much really. I was already making money as a copywriter through my freelancing efforts. I just needed to plan the design and content for my business site.

Q. How did you design and build your website?
I origionally purchased a website template package and had it uploaded to my hosting account. Once there, I didn't like the look of it. So I redesigned it myself, created my header in photoshop and added more content pages.

Q. What software do you use to run your business?
I use a variety of software packages depending on the needs of my clients. I use camtasia studio, front page, the entire Office suite of applications, as well as a host of marketing type software packages.

Q. How does your website generate income?
Mainly through my service offerings on my website or through Elance.com where I still bid on projects.

Q. How do you collect payments for your products or services?
I use paypal.com or Elance.com

Q. What promotion methods do you use?
I use blogging and pinging daily, reciprocal linking, articles, forum posting etc. Next will be PPC campaigns.

Q. Which method has proven to give you the best sales results?
So far article submissions have been the best because they circulate farther and faster than other methods.

Q. Which method of traffic generation has proven to be the best for you?
As I said, article submissions.

Q. What is your biggest challenge each month?
Developing new ways to get my website noticed.

Q. What's the biggest mistake you've made since starting your business?
Not promoting the business fast enough.

Q. How has your lifestyle changed since you started your online business?
Yes, I now work more hours in a day unfortunately. I am not at the point financially where I can outsource administrative and maintenance tasks, so I have to do it all.

Q. How has your SureFireWealth.com membership helped you with your online business?
Absolutely. The information I have received from this membership is what I fall back on to try to improve my services and my business.

Q. What would you say to someone looking to start a website in the same niche as you?
I would say that they need to have all their ducks lined up in a row before trying to get clients. Create a stunning portfolio and begin by getting their feed wet through offering their services through a freelance work site before branching out on their own.
