Interview By: Jeremy Gislason Interview Date: 14-Aug-05
Q. Please tell us a little about your background. I'm a 43 year old, Software engineer. Born in Argentina, currently leaving in Brussels, Belgium.
Q. What made you decide to start a website in the field? After 20 years as a software Engineer, I wanted to learn more about Marketing, and especially about internet marketing. I started this project as a way to apply the marketing techniques I was learning. The topic was selected because the book author has been teaching this for the last 10 years, and he was willing to join me in this experiment.
Q. What kind of research went into this niche area before building your website? Actually, I started from the opposite side, because I had a product. So the challenge was how to tailor the message to the market. I think we were lucky, because there is a huge market for personal improvement, but not much for the "Personal Conflict" area. The research was basic, in terms that we set the web site, and then set up a Goggle Adwords campaign. From that information we tailored the sales pages. I guess we are still testing things.
Q. How did you design and build your website? Being technical oriented, I worked first on the payment options, ad tracking, and other management utilities. Then we created a basic Sales page, and we outsourced the graphical design, and the creation of the PDF file.
Q. What software do you use to run your business? Most of it is web based. I'm using Loweryourbidprice.com services for keyword generation, google adwords for the traffic.
Q. How does your website generate income? We sell the eBook 'Positive Conflicts' as the main revenue stream, but we are building a list, that will be used to sell other related products.
Q. How do you collect payments for your products or services? Currently we only support Paypal, but we have plans to add Paydotcom, and Clickbank for the affiliates processing.
Q. What promotion methods do you use? We have a blog, PositiveConflicts.blogspot.com, but most of our traffic comes from Adwords.
Q. Which method has proven to give you the best sales results? Adwords, being the only one we use right now.
Q. Which method of traffic generation has proven to be the best for you? We learned some lessons, like that clicks does not necessarily convert into sales. We have some keyword groups, with good CTR, but they do not convert into sales, while other groups have lover CTR, but they do convert very well.
Q. What is your biggest challenge each month? Right now is moving from the fist stage that is selling the product, to building a customer base, which will allow us to sell other products.
Q. What's the biggest mistake you've made since starting your business? Afraid to try...At the beginning there was so much information, that I was paralyzed, and no action was possible. Then I started to do very small steps, until I could see the progress, and with that loose the fear.
Q. How has your lifestyle changed since you started your online business? No, lifestyle has not been affected so far, except that I'm spending more time in from of the screen ,and away of the family. I hope that with the time I will be able to restore the balance.
Q. How has your SureFireWealth.com membership helped you with your online business? I hoping to get ideas, and leads to do joint ventures.
Q. What would you say to someone looking to start a website in the same niche as you? I would say, start slow build yourself a site, and collect a list, then use that to define exactly what your customers want...
