Interview By: Jeremy Gislason Interview Date: 31-May-05
Q. Please tell us a little about your background.
A. I am the parent of a special needs child (learning disabilities) and a foster parent as well. Married over 24 years, I have several web based sites, but this one is my passion
Q. What made you decide to start a website in the field?
A. Since I have a child with special educational needs I saw a chance to share my own experiences to help others.
Q. What kind of research went into this niche area before building your website?
A. A constant search for relevant material was a challenge. I had to find lots of articles, current information and struggle to keep it fresh. Not much has been written from the parental advocacy perspective.
Q. How did you design and build your website?
A. I conceptualized it all myself. It was very much trial and error, but when it is from the heart it is easy to do.
Q. What software do you use to run your business?
A. MS Outlook and some autoreponders, much of what I do is very personal so it is hard to automate.
Q. How does your website generate income?
A. I have a few banners and also sell a related handbook on my other site at www.parental-advocacy-book.com.
Q. How do you collect payments for your products or services?
A. Paypal
Q. What promotion methods do you use?
A. Mostly word of mouth and search engine placement.
Q. Which method has proven to give you the best sales results?
A. PayPerClick has by far been the best for finding a niche.
Q. Which method of traffic generation has proven to be the best for you?
A. Again, PPC has been a blessing.
Q. What is your biggest challenge each month?
A. Finding fresh content.
Q. What's the biggest mistake you've made since starting your business?
A. Assuming that people would just find me - you need to get the word out about your site.
Q. How has your lifestyle changed since you started your online business?
A. Less free time but a greater sense of personal reward.
Q. How has your SureFireWealth.com membership helped you with your online business?
A. A wealth of ideas come in.
Q. What would you say to someone looking to start a website in the same niche as you?
A. First, do your homework. Take time to prepare before you talk to this niche, they are very passionate about the topic.
