Interview By: Jeremy Gislason Interview Date: 07-Aug-05
Q. Please tell us a little about your background. I am presently a Network Administrator. I've been playing around with computers for about 15 years. I also teach Microsoft classes at a local University.
Q. What made you decide to start a website in the field? Oddly enough, it was during one of the classes that I teach that students and I were talking about online businesses. Most of the students were either Network Support people or higher and we felt that we should be able to make money online since we were all good with computers. I said I would look into it and see what I could find out about online businesses. Well, that was the beginning of what I hope will be a long and steady uphill climb. I love marketing online. I've only made about $5,000 in the last year doing it, but it's been exciting seeing it develop.
Q. What kind of research went into this niche area before building your website? Not really much. I saw a product that I knew I could use (and I think it is a great plus if you use what you sell), and I went for it. The investment was minimal so I couldn't justify extensive research.
Q. How did you design and build your website? Fortunately, I was able to purchase a package with a ready made sales webpage. I only had to learn some minimal Frontpage to edit things accordingly.
Q. What software do you use to run your business? Frontpage, although I'm trying to switch over to Dreamweaver. An FTP client of course.
Q. How does your website generate income? I sell a product.
Q. How do you collect payments for your products or services? I use Payloadz and 2Checkout.com
Q. What promotion methods do you use? Google Adwords.
Q. Which method has proven to give you the best sales results? Offer a great product and throw in a lot of freebies to separate yourself from your competion.
Q. Which method of traffic generation has proven to be the best for you? Just Google Adwords.
Q. What is your biggest challenge each month? Finding new products and duplicating the process. I'm presently trying to generate income with Google Adsense. So with that comes a new learning curve and new challenges.
Q. What's the biggest mistake you've made since starting your business? Buying too many products online. I love everything and can't resist. Most of what I buy does help,(I've read some great material), but overall I've bought way more than I will get around to.
Q. How has your lifestyle changed since you started your online business? I definitely watch less TV at night! Now instead I'll spend more time on the computer trying to build the business.
Q. How has your SureFireWealth.com membership helped you with your online business? I plan on getting several of the products there up for resale. I did sell one copy of Niche produts already.
Q. What would you say to someone looking to start a website in the same niche as you? Study your competition and look for the weakness. Try to stay focused on one product at a time. Expect to wear many hats and don't be afraid to try.
