All about Birds, September 21, 2007

I was somewhat disappointed in this site. The first thing is the layout, the underlying background was distracting. There is a lot of information on wild birds but not any kind of a directory that was easy to access to find out information on a certain bird, you may have questions about. It seems there is a lot of different information and products for birds from cages to binoculars for bird watching, but it felt segmented and not an organized site that you could navigate through easily. For the bird enthusiasts it may be a great resource but for us back yard bird watchers it’s a mediocre resource.

An excellent and noteworthy detail: This has just been recently updated, which I think already puts it a step ahead of other niche websites. It makes use of an interesting background image which adds a bit more appeal to the site itself, although it's not very good if you're using a high resolution or a widescreen monitor. Not a major issue, really, just some aesthetics thing for me, personally. It also makes use of numerous popular blogging tools and widgets (MyBlogLog and Technorati, for example) and is amply supported by ads as well, though you may find them a bit intrusive in certain sections. The posts are at least interesting and written well enough, but you may find the "About Us" section a tad too awkward. This could probably improve some more with a little extra work on the grammar, but otherwise, it appears to be doing a fine job at the moment.
