Interview By: Jeremy Gislason Interview Date: 05-Oct-05
Q. Please tell us a little about your background. I am an avid organic gardener. I started college when I was younger and am just getting around to finishing a degree in Biology. I have been a site designer for almost ten years now.
Q. What made you decide to start a website in the field? Well, it combined two of my biggest passions together. What more could a person want to accomplish? :-) There is a huge need to get some of the information slowly accumulating at Article Garden in the public's eye. I had the ability to help accomplish that by creating Article Garden.
Q. What kind of research went into this niche area before building your website? It's an offshoot of all the internet marketing research I've been doing for almost ten years.
Q. How did you design and build your website? I use a simple text editor and PaintShop Pro for graphic design. I code all my sites by hand.
Q. What software do you use to run your business? I use free everything I can find! I use dada mail, ArticleDashboard, a new directory script that Paul Meyers of Talkbiz fame sent me a link to... it's fabulous. My web hosting at Thirdsphere handles all my auto responder needs.
Q. How does your website generate income? Affiliate Programs. I am interested in taking the site to the next level as soon as it is established by creating an article submission service.
Q. How do you collect payments for your products or services? Right now, I don't have my own product or service. I use adsense and four affiliate programs that have been solid for me.
Q. What promotion methods do you use? I do a LOT of hand written emails!
Q. Which method has proven to give you the best sales results? Constant contact with folks. Giving them the opportunity to be on an 'announcement list'.
Q. Which method of traffic generation has proven to be the best for you? Referrals.
Q. What is your biggest challenge each month? Keeping focused on goals. NOT involving myself in things that eat up my time that are not really 'getting me anywhere'.
Q. What's the biggest mistake you've made since starting your business? Not getting indexed in Google immediately.
Q. How has your lifestyle changed since you started your online business? I made a bad grade on a Cell Biology test! LOL! My daughter just slides dinner under the door. I'm joking, but I do spend a lot of time reading articles and researching sites. I enjoy coding and design, so I'd spend this time doing that anyway. Thank goodness for the dogs, they make sure I go for a walk and get out of my 'cave' every day!
Q. How has your SureFireWealth.com membership helped you with your online business? There are so many wonderful research tools available here! The ebooks really inspired me to make the decision to go forward. The comradery of the members, I've met some wonderful people at this site!
Q. What would you say to someone looking to start a website in the same niche as you? Make yourself stand out in some small way and capitalize on that. The experts tell you not to try and be all things to all people. I couldn't agree with them more. I don't care how small a difference it is, go with it.
