Q. Please tell us a little about your background. After the long-term success of my first website, 4MomsAtHome.com, I decided to move up to the next level and try my hand at affiliate marketing on a larger scale.
Q. What made you decide to start a website in the field? Well, being a mom it's only natural that I'd want to have a family-based website. Comparison shopping and coupon sites tend to generate a fair amount of revenue so I decided to narrow this business model down to a niche market--a shopping mall for kids.
Q. What kind of research went into this niche area before building your website? Quite a bit. Over 7 years of experience, research, and trial-and-error have revealed a need for such a website.
Q. How did you design and build your website? Joomla 1.5 is the backbone for the site. Mainly because there are so many fantastic extensions available to enhance the site. I used a specialty software product to design my own template.
Q. What software do you use to run your business? Microsoft Office, a data cleaner program, and Photoshop are indispensable.
Q. How does your website generate income? Affiliate commissions and Google AdSense
Q. How do you collect payments for your products or services? Checks are issued by the affiliate networks that I work with.
Q. What promotion methods do you use? SEO and high-quality link exchanges with sites relevant to my niche. I also plan to make limited use of highly targeted search engine marketing.
Q. Which method has proven to give you the best sales results? Content, pure and simple. Original articles and reviews which lead the visitor to the sales page.
Q. Which method of traffic generation has proven to be the best for you? In the past I've found that SEO tends to be the most effective way to get a fair amount of targeted traffic.
Q. What is your biggest challenge each month? Not enough time to do all that needs to be done.
Q. What's the biggest mistake you've made since starting your business? Taking on too much at once.
Q. How has your lifestyle changed since you started your online business? Certainly I keep much busier now. Also my self-esteem has improved as a result of the success I've had.
