Interview By: Jeremy Gislason Interview Date: 20-Jul-05
Q. Please tell us a little about your background. I am a stay at home mom; I have two kids, one starting college and one starting high school. My dream has always been to own a small horse farm and that is what I am striving for. I have traveled extensively around the world, and have currently settled in Lexington, Kentucky.
Q. What made you decide to start a website in the field? I decided to build a business in the health niche because being overweight myself, a smoker, and in my fifties, I can relate to many of the problems that this niche encounters.
Q. What kind of research went into this niche area before building your website? We all know the percentage of overweight Americans is around 50%-60%. That alone was incentive enough, but being one of those overweight statistics I was curious to see what was being offered to remedy the problem. I did a lot of research on the internet and decided this would be a good area to go into since I am very interested in it.
Q. How did you design and build your website? I designed my website based on colors and images that I thought pertained to health, but were different. I did a lot or research looking at other sites in this niche and seeing how they were laid out and what type of information/ products they were offering. I did lots and lots of writing and rewriting, asking my friends and family to read my copy and give me advice. I also sought help and advice from complete strangers on the internet who were very willing to help. It was a long process. I had to learn everything from scratch since I had never done anything like this before. My site is simple, because I don’t want people to get bored, or annoyed by the length of copy. It is pretty much to the point.
Q. What software do you use to run your business? WebsiteTonight through GoDaddy.
Q. How does your website generate income? Forums, traffic generators, word of mouth, newsletter, blog, friends and acquaintances, search engines.
Q. How do you collect payments for your products or services? Paypal
Q. What promotion methods do you use? Newsletter, blog, forums, advertising in traffic generator programs, business cards, Search engines, keywords, health conferences and seminars.
Q. Which method has proven to give you the best sales results? Nothing yet! Still haven’t made a sale! Too new!
Q. Which method of traffic generation has proven to be the best for you? I am still setting up my traffic generators, so it hard to say. There are many free opportunities out there and I have signed up with some of them after looking over as many as I could.
Q. What is your biggest challenge each month? Building traffic and keeping my newsletter current. Continuing to learn about lead pages, and begin building a personal contact with each subscriber.
Q. What's the biggest mistake you've made since starting your business? Wasting time and money on a seminar that turned out to be useless to me.
Q. How has your lifestyle changed since you started your online business? I spend hours on end on the computer now so at this point it is harder keeping up with house chores!
Q. How has your SureFireWealth.com membership helped you with your online business? It has given me additional products to complement the products I sell.
Q. What would you say to someone looking to start a website in the same niche as you? Be creative. Make your products unique. There are a lot of health websites and you have to be creative, to make your sales pitch unique and your product interesting and valuable.
