Needs work, March 28, 2007

I really got confused the first time I used this and was wondering where on Earth my screenshots were. So I gave up on it after a while and came back to the site a few days later. And what do you know, this time I figured it out. Browser Shots basically takes a picture of your site and displays it as it is rendered in various browsers, hence the name. All you have to do is type your URL, choose which browsers you'd like to see your site in, and hit submit. And THEN you have to wait for 30 minutes for all screenshots to come through.
It's a particularly helpful tool for designers if they want to see how their design would look in other browsers, especially if they only use IE and Firefox. Yet for some reason, it showed that one of my sites looks terrible on a Firefox browser, even though I'm using Firefox myself and don't see anything wrong with my site, so go figure. I only wish Browser Shots had a more instant way to deliver the screenshots to the person who requested them. Waiting 30 minutes to get through the queue of websites awaiting their screenshots is a little annoying.

i was pretty disappointed two weeks ago, but now i'm happy about this!, November 27, 2007

I was excited to try this tool because I know for a fact that one of my blogs, the one I pay for, was actually an inconsistent one, with regards to how it renders across the different browsers. It looks best in Firefox or Camino, which are both based on the Mozilla code. So imagine my disappointment when I had to wait for the screenshots and didn’t know how to figure out how to access them!
This may be a nifty tool, but it has a learning curve to get over. And I guess because the free service is a community effort, so no one is really compelled to deliver your screenshots to you.
When I checked back just now, though, I was gleefully surprised to see my site across ten browsers. The only places that it did not render as expected were in, as I’ve known, Safari, and I was surprised that the only other browser where it rendered much like in Safari was Konqueror. So at least I now know that in general, most people would see my site the way I could see it.
I’m happy. :)
But if you plan to use this, wait a day or two, because the span of time since I’ve been here, according to the site, had been two weeks.
It’s not bad, for free service, because it IS a series of screenshots, after all. I got 10, so it would be expected to take a while. If you want your service right there and then though, prepare to shell out 10 Euros. If you won’t mind, and you need your screenshots asap, I think it’s worth it!
