I didn't think there were any secrets to using and configuring Skype, so I had to check this one out. The pacing of all six videos may be a little too slow for some people's taste, but it gives great detail that way, and the creator of the video really takes his time explaining each step and feature. No second is waste, and even in the part in the first video wherein Skype is being downloaded, Louis Allport still has something to say and clarify. The other videos pay special attention to what you can do with Skype and explore more of its features, as well as how you can use it for your website. Before I checked this out, I had no idea it could even be used to add audio to website. As always, audio and video quality is great. The creator did a very good job on this one.

This is a step-by-step video tutorial on how to use Skype. For those who don’t know the potential of applications when it isn’t pointed out to them, this is a good place to look for a how-to.
Generally, I use Skype only for what it was intended for: for calling people. I also use it to send SMS to people when my prepaid credits have run out. When I read the link that there was a tutorial on how to record audio, I wasn’t that surprised because I used to use GizmoProject and I did have an inbox full of voicemail when my contacts can’t get through to me. So the possibility of a SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) phone or any other VoIP application being used to record audio wasn’t new to me.
I then realized that it wasn’t really a part of Skype itself, per se, but it was a plugin and you had to download and install it. It also works with Google Talk and Yahoo Messenger, so if you are not really interested to have Skype on your computer, you can download the plugin. Just search for the keyword you’ll find in this video tutorial. I’m too lazy to post it here. :p Well, actually I just want you to give this resource a shot and find things our for yourself. :p
As for the rest of the video-book tutorial, well, it was pretty simple, pretty understandable though I did not understand why the tutorial took too much time on the CNET rating system for the plugin.
Audacity was mentioned here and it’s funny because I do use Audacity on my Mac for my audio editing needs. And I do agree that it does the job and is a nifty FREE application besides.
So on the whole, this videobook is worth it, if you are a newbie. Just watching the animated tutorial was pretty entertaining. Would be useful in killing time if you have too much of it on your hands.
I am just wondering whether my firewall was blocking the audio though. But though it was turned off, I fully understood what the tutorial was getting at. This shows just how user and newbie-friendly it is. So yeah, get it, and learn what else you can do with your Skype. :)
