Spoof Emails - Don By Tim B. Miller

Reviewer: Lynn Lopez
Aack, my eyes bleed with all the grammatical errors, repetitious tips, and confusing phrases in this e-book and it's too bad because many people are interested in the topic and want to learn how to protect themselves from fraudulent email. If you can wade through the mistakes and confusion however, you may find that it's a useful piece--until you find out that some sections have been lifted directly from the help section of eBay, and you may notice that the e-book, for example, recommends that spoof email victims "report suspicious activity to us" as if the author's an eBay employee. A large chunk of it is basically copy-and-paste, whether it's the text or the images. Just the fact that most of this content can be read on the relevant websites already makes this an extremely poor product, and the author should have at least indicated the URLs containing this information. It includes bits of good tips here and there but overall, you can do so much better than this product.

Spoof Emails - Don By Tim B. Miller
Important, especially to PayPal or eBay members, February 06, 2008
This e-book not only tells you how to spot a fraudulent e-mail but also gives several real examples. The sample spoof e-mails here look so official and professional that they are almost convincing. The idea of being a victim of such trickery is quite scary.
The good thing is that the author identifies the elements that make those particular e-mails fake. He particularly highlights in red the dubious words in the URL address. I also appreciate that he made the links here dead for the reader’s protection – especially if someone clicks on a link accidentally.
The author also gives good advice on how to protect your personal information if you are an eBay or PayPal member.
At the end of this e-book is also some useful additional information on spyware.
But while this e-book is already informative as it is, I was looking for more spoof e-mails, especially for credit card and banking, since the author mentioned this in the beginning. The e-book in its present form is heavily focused on spoof PayPal and eBay e-mails.
