This looks like it may be more appropriate for you to have read it last year, but since the topic it discusses has to do with setting goals in general, then we can definitely say that it's appropriate for any time, no matter what year it is. Expect to be quite inspired by its contents. This even includes a pretty nice chart which can help you keep track of your goals and help you keep focused on accomplishing them. The e-book is well thought-out and well-written, and the way it brings across its message can really help you set your goals and be realistic about them. It's a very short document, but length is never an indication of a product's quality and that holds true for this one. If you are planning to distribute this document, then you're doing your customers and readers a very good favor because this is indeed a good-quality product.

Setting Goals By Paul Smithson
A useful guide to goal-setting, August 21, 2007
A short report but compact with useful, “actionable” information. It teaches you the importance of setting goals, particularly what exactly is in it for you. It shows the right way to set goals – that is, they should be SMART ones. The author, Paul Smithson, clearly explains what a SMART goal is and gives examples – even including Benjamin Franklin’s goals! Smithson even goes so far as advising how to convert New Year’s resolutions in to SMART goals.
At the same time, Smithson urges you to check your goals against your values. The critical question is – do you really need it? For a richer, happier life, the author also suggests setting goals in the different areas of your life – home, work, community, etc. the section about big, hairy, audacious goals (BHAG) is attention-grabbing and poses a good challenge.
The conclusion at the end of the report effectively summarizes the essence of goal-setting. You might also find the worksheets for goal-setting helpful. The motivational quotes at the end are also a nice touch.
