Do you know what is the WoW Loot Council? Let me tell you. A loot council is a simple way to distribute loot in theory. A designated group looks at the loot that drops, looks at who wants it, and decides the best fit. Sounds easy right? There are problems though since people's perceptions, bias, and feelings are involved, it can turn ugly quickly. One of the most basic things that can cause drama around any loot system is players not understanding it, or the raid leader not explaining it clearly. So, before we look at some of the ways to minimize the drama around a loot council let's run through some basic loot council rules. I promise that if everyone knows the rules and understands them, you will have fewer issues in the long run.
Loot Council RulesThe first thing you need to know about a loot council is that it really should only be used when it is a full guild run. Recruits that you are looking at are OK to be included, but not just any old PUG player. The basics to running a loot council are as follows:
1 - The loot council should be made up of the raid leader and several guild officers. They should have access to a separate Vent channel or raid channel to discuss loot distribution.
2 - Raids are run with Master Loot on and one of the loot council is given control.
3 - When items drop from a boss, or an epic from trash, it is linked in raid and everyone that is interested speaks up. A last call warning is given from the loot council and then they leave to discuss it.
4 - The loot council then discusses who should get the item and why. The things that should go into the decision are individual to your loot council but are generally:
5 - The gear is then given to the person that the WoW Loot Council awards it to and the group moves on.
6 - No public complaints are allowed after distribution, all discussion must be with a loot council member.
You can make any rule changes to the standards that you want, but it is critical that they happen before a run not during a run. If done in the middle of a run, you are just asking for trouble and for people saying you are doing it to play favorites to someone.
This brings up the point that while you can make the rules whatever you would like, you also need to make sure that they are fair. If they are not fair and equal to everyone you are asking for trouble.
Who Loot Council Works ForLoot Council WoW is just one of many different kinds of loot distribution systems. As stated above it is really meant as a guild run only loot system, but even above that there are a few things to keep in mind.
Because it is based on human decision at every step, it works best in a guild full of players that know and trust one another. They also should have similar goals and not be ego driven.
The ideal group to use loot council is a group of players that knows each other and wants to work as a group to get through and defeat new content. While wanting to experience new content they also do not really care if they are personally 1st or 15th on the damage meters, or 1st or 5th on the healing meters, or if they are the main or off-tank is the ideal group for using loot council.
How to minimize dramaAs with any loot system, or almost anything in the game, drama will ensue since people are involved. There are several things that you can do to minimize drama though. A few of the basic things to keep in mind are outlined below.
The simplest thing to reduce drama from a WoW Loot Council is to make sure that everyone is on board with it and understands the end goal. The end goal of a loot council is to distribute loot for the betterment of the guild. Make sure everyone is clear on that. Players need to understand that at some times that will mean one person potentially getting a lot of gear in a row, and at other times none.
A good example would be if your guild lost a key DPS cloth player and replaced them with a known good player, but that player was under geared. This could result in that player being given several of the next cloth DPS drops even though other DPS players wanted them and haven't gotten a drop lately. Even though another player wanted it, it is better for the guild to have all their DPS functioning at a high level. The gear may make a 15 DPS difference to your existing players, but a 100 DPS difference to the new player.
Keep in mind that even though the rules are fairly open, and it is possible to grant all the gear that drops the two key things to remember are: what's fair, and what's best for the guild. Remember too that one of the best things for the guild is to not fall apart due to drama over loot distribution, therefore the ¡°be fair¡± rule becomes critical. Given the situation above, make sure that your DPS are ok with not getting something, and make sure they understand why. In most groups this isn't a big issue, but if your guild has repeated issues with it, it may mean loot council is not for you or that you need to distribute loot differently to keep everyone happy.
Another important thing is to be able to explain any decision rationally and with the logic that went into the choice to award loot to a player. The simplest way to defuse a complaint from a player that they did not get gear is to explain clearly why the other player got it. The complaining player may not like the decision, but if it is clear and logical then they have no choice but to accept it. If the decision was ¡°they got it because we like them better¡± then you should expect issues.
Even though loot council is not like a DKP based system and each piece should be given on the merit at that time, you really should also keep track of loot over time. Sometimes loot should be given to a player that is there all the time even though it is a small upgrade if they have not been given anything in a long time. It is very easy to forget that you haven't given a certain player gear in 5 weeks, since you are dealing with 24 other players, however I guarantee that player will not forget.

Do you want to defeat your enemies, see them driven before you? Yes, today we are going to talk about the Blood Sport: WoW Dalaran Arena. This article will disscuss about the problems and possible solutions, from which you can get benefit. 1) Problem: The waterfall is a major annoyance. It doesn't come down frequently enough to impact the game in substantial ways -- other than being exceptionally annoying at times. The vast majority of most Dalaran Sewers matches are fought "up top." The ledge on the side doesn't provide great line-of-sight when compared with the boxes. If your team is fighting near the enemy boxes, but your healer is healing at the other set of boxes and the waterfall comes down, your team needs to adjust position quickly. Sometimes, the opposing team will win games simply because of that waterfall. Yes, your team could make a more conscious effort to prepare for the waterfall -- but should that be what arena is about? Possible Solution: Remove it! Instead of the waterfall coming down more frequently (or in a less random manner) to solve the problem, a much more elegant solution would be to just remove it. Yes, while that would take Blizzard biting the bullet, they've already removed the fire strips from Ring of Valor. That took some balls, and they buckled down and did it for the betterment of the game -- and there was much rejoicing. 2) Problem: Boxes (the only reliable line of sight) is in a very overpowered location. The boxes are located at the farthest possible point away from ramps (the only two ways to get up on top of the platform). If you abuse "your" boxes, you can often force players to jump off to avoid taking a lot of damage. Players might be line-of-sighting spell damage, a warrior's Charge, or abusing Demonic Teleport. In any case, the cost of jumping down near boxes in this arena is much more costly than jumping down in Blade's Edge, and I'll explain why. On z-axis arenas, people at the top always have the advantage positionally (warlocks aren't an exception, a Demonic Circle placed on the bottom of Blade's Edge or Dalaran is laughable). When you force an opponent to jump down on Dalaran, you are now 'on top.' Or at least your healer is. If you're melee, you'll just follow them and continue to keep up the pressure. If you're spell dps, oh happy day, you get to remain up top while spamming damage. In any case, if the opposing healer needs to run towards your boxes to heal their wounded teammate up, you can prepare for that and hit them with crowd control (this is particularly true if your healer is a druid). If the opposing healer is at a staircase (ramp), then the opposing damaged will be running towards his healer and not putting out damage. You can then make the choice to crowd control the healer in the open, run towards the threatened opponent and close the gap, or hide behind your boxes and reset. You have a lot of options available at that point in the game, and those options are what makes the position of the boxes (a defensive fortress near an offensive backdrop) so good. If the opposing team decides to fight you on the ground, not only do you have the ability to run away from the ledge and line of sight them in that regard, but the boxes are right there to abuse their line of sight as well. 3) Problem: The Z-axis of Dalaran Sewers is much more punishing than Blade's Edge Arena. In Blade's Edge Arena, if a member of your team needs to jump down (for whatever reason), you are always near an edge to jump down with him and heal him or peel for him. In Dalaran Sewers, if you are near the waterfall on the top platform -- well, just hope your teammate has a lot of survivability cooldowns available. 4) Problem: Thunderstorm/Typhoon/Blast Wave Knockbacks are incredible on this map. We've already talked about why Dalaran's Z-axis is so much more punishing than Blade's Edge -- imagine what happens when an elemental shaman knocks the opposing team's dps off the edge and the opposing team's healer into the waterfall. Then the waterfall Thunderstorms him again and an angel gets its wings. 5) Problem: Fear Pathing. "Fear pathing," is shorthand for the silly rng (random number generator/generation) that occurs when fear takes you in either the best or worst possible location. I've seen fear run people from the boxes to the stairs and down to the opposite side of the boxes on this arena at least two hundred times. I can't imagine a scenario worse than that one on any arena, and I see it all the time. Possible Solution for overpowered line-of-sight, Z-axis issues, knockbacks, and fear pathing: Add two more ramps! Giving players more access to the top platform will decrease the player vs. pillar element of this arena. Creating good position is fairly easy to do on Dalaran Arena -- stay around "your" pillar. There's no way to attack the pillars from the back, so every offensive attempt you make vs. a team that can play well on the defensive might end badly. Allowing players to sneak around the ledge on the bottom will create interesting lines of play in that they will be able to LOS spell damage or enemy CC while getting closer to the enemy position and boxes. Knockbacks and fear pathing, while both will continue to be quite deadly -- will not be quite as game breaking. 6) Problem: Demonic Circle in the starting pipe. In season five, players could set it in the starting gate for the entire duration of a match. Close to killing that warlock? Poof, he's gone -- and there's no way to get to him sans Death Grip. Warlocks can actually still set their Demonic Circle in the starting zone and use it once before it disappears -- kind of lame, but unfortunately not an exploit (my warlock gets lots of tells every day for the past three months about how people are reporting him for exploiting). Even though I could lump this in with a problem of the Z-axis, it's really a bit stronger than that. There's nothing inherently wrong with a map being designed with a height element. Demonic Circle, after all, is just an exceptional tool that can be used to completely negate an opponent's Charge or Intercept. The problem comes when warlocks can negate every ability on the opposing team for an extended period of time -- even Divine Shield has Mass Dispels to counter it. Possible Solution: Put the starting pipe on ground level and take out the water torrents. Not only does this take away quasi-exploitation, but it allows players to fight in a new area. If developers are against starting the pipe on ground level, it can be ramped down, which would be pretty interesting to fight in. If developers are also against taking out the water torrents, I suppose that's alright too. Fighting in the pipe only to be pushed out 5-10 seconds later might be kind of neat. Fixed Problems Blizzard isn't above fixing problems in arena. Most changes revolve around player abilities, but sometimes the arena itself changes forms. Dalaran has already gone through several changes, some of them very important. 1) Boxes were buggy around the edges. One of the reasons WotLK PvP started off so poorly in season five was the terrible, terrible shape of the Dalaran boxes. In case you didn't know (and I don't blame you if you didn't), the shape of the boxes actually changed in season seven. Before, the boxes were a peculiar triangular shape -- it was hard to tell if your heal or spell would hit your target or not. Even though the boxes still have a peculiar line-of-sight element to them, it's not anywhere close to as bad as it was. Trying to heal your teammates around the side edges of the boxes was akin to rolling dice and getting snake eyes a quarter of the time. It sucked. 2) The size of the arena was too small. Before players were able to mount, Dalaran Sewers was tiny. I'd hate to be a claustrophobic PvPer in season five. Although it was a neat idea to have a unique no-mount arena, the sewers are much more balanced as a larger zone. 3) Scarab Lords. In season five and most of season six, players were not able to mount inside Dalaran Arena -- unless you were a Scarab Lord. My main is a Scarab Lord, so I know about this first hand. For me it was awesome, for everyone else -- not so much. When the paladin I played with would apply Crusader Aura, (just for me, bwahaha) I could mount up and get to the opposing team before they got to their ramp (stairs). I might have made a few people quit arena. Oops. Dalaran Sewers Solutions Recap Take the waterfall out completely. Are you a super fan of wow game? How do you think the WoW Random Raid Tool create better or worse PUG groups? The random heroic tool and the extra rewards that it brings to players has been an insanely popular addition to World of Warcraft. Many players log on religiously to complete the random daily with a random group of players. A similar mechanic is the weekly raid quest, but players have started asking for more. You can find several threads in the forums, and hear talk in general about the request for a random raid tool, much like the random dungeon tool. While players comment about a tool and the desire is there, what players want and what is a good idea in the game can be vastly different things. With that in mind let's take a look at some of the potential pros and cons of a random raid tool. Keep in mind that the tool doesn't even exist yet, nor do we know what exactly it would look like if it did. I am just running off of some educated guesses and thoughts about what shape it could take.
Potential Positives (Pros)I am going to start by looking at some of the very real positive effects that having a random raid tool would have.
The first really big bonus that a random raid tool would allow for is accessibility. It would allow more players access to raids that may never otherwise get into raids. If the tool did a good job matching up players it would allow for successful groups. For instance players from low population servers could join into raids where their server may not have enough non-guilded players to make up PUG groups. I would also allow players to join cross realm groups to better fit their play time, or just to have access to a group.
You also have to assume that a Random Raid Tool WoW would provide some sort of reward to players for completing it, which is always a plus to the player base. This could come in the form of additional badges, tokens, or even gear itself. How this is given out would have to be based on the lockout timer for the raid, which is discussed later on.
Having a random raid tool is also a good way to get more use out of older content. If raids did not show up to be used in the raid tool until they were a tier behind the current content it would keep them well used by players even though they are not being used by the top end raiding guilds. In fact it would likely keep the players that have already finished the content coming back for more, even though they are done, just for the extra rewards.
Lastly and potentially most importantly, even if a group does not do well, getting players into raids has the likely side effect of hooking them into doing more difficult content for the challenge. If you hook players in they will come back, and this will expand the raiding player base. The more players that raid, the more pressure there is for raid content on Blizzard and the more we get. That's pretty positive to me as a raider.
Potential Downsides (Cons)There are several downsides to a random raid group, some no better or worse than you would end up with a PUG group. Some however, I think could be potentially far worse.
One of the biggest down sides to a WoW Random Raid Tool is that since you would likely be matched up with many players from many different servers it makes getting into a permanent raid group far harder. This is because you would not normally be able to re-invite players to another raid after that raid. It would make forming a permanent raid and social group nearly impossible. To me that permanent social group is what raiding is all about.
Another big downside is that raid composition, especially for 25 player raids, is much more complicated than trying to put a 5 man heroic group together randomly. There would need to be some serious logic built into the system for even 10 player raids, never mind 25 player raids. Can you imagine if a group got formed with 3 warrior tanks, 6 paladin healers, and all ranged or melee dps? You would struggle in fights that required the opposite type of DPS, or that needed group AoE heals, or needed AoE tanking. Group balancing is a big issue and lots of factors go into it.
Once you have a group, how do you pick the leader? More importantly who is going to listen to them, how do you prove that they should if you're picked as the leader? It is hard enough to get everyone to listen in a raid some days when they are all guild members, never mind a PUG, never mind a PUG made up of players from several servers! Authority is something that is earned by demonstrated skill, experience, and knowledge, that's hard to do in the first 5 minutes of being thrown together with random players.
It may be hard to manage raid lockouts as any time a group broke up, because players would assumedly be from different servers it would be almost impossible to regroup at a later date. One potential way around this would be to have insanely short lockout periods for whichever raid you got as the random raid. This could be down to as little as a day, but probably only for non-current raid content. One idea would be to only use the raids older than the previous patch.
Another potential downside is that the in-game voice tool is fairly bad and almost no one uses it. Someone new to raiding and coming into it because of a random tool may not know much about raiding and not realize they need a third-party tool like Ventrilo to run successfully. While not a deal breaker as players will learn over time to get Vent installed and info will be shared, the same as it is in a PUG, new raiders could be put off by a request to install a 3rd party application. Yet without it, they will likely fail hard in a raid and be turned off of raiding.
Lastly, if full premade groups can sign up just to get a random raid with extra bonuses they will use it repeatedly to get additional benefits, potential putting them even further ahead of normal players. I know I would. A way to limit this would be limiting the reward to a once a week reward but allowing redoing of the raids based on lockout. A lot depends on how many people you can bring into the group, the lockout time, and the reward structure. It's probably not something to worry about yet, but something that would need to be kept in mind with the system's creation.
Messiah's opinion on the creation of a Random Raid ToolWhile I like the idea of potential extra rewards for raiders, keeping older content being used, and expanding the raider player base, I have serious doubts as to the possible success of a Random Raid Tool. The issue comes about because of the vast number of players that want and expect raid gear but really have no idea how to play. They want the gear handed to them with little to no effort.
Worse yet, being part of a random raid seriously erodes one of the very basic reasons that players raid. Ask any hard core raider why they raid, I make you a bet that neither of their top two answers have anything to do with gear. The reason most hard core raiders raid is to a) see new content and b) socialize with a group of like minded players. Many hard core raiding guilds survive long enough to move from one MMO to another, this is entirely due to the social bonds that are created between players as they raid week after week, month after month, and year after year. This entire aspect is lost if a raid is simply a group of players thrown together.
Once you look at gear requirements and group requirements I just can not see that any gear check or achievement check that Blizzard puts in is likely to be strict enough. If you look at some of the groups that get created for even simple content like Heroic instances Blizzard has shown that they are too lenient on players and allow players in that have no realistic chance to complete the instance if everyone played or was geared similar to them. Many groups have less than a 50% chance of completing a heroic, so if that same group making methodology and selection is applied to something larger and harder like a raid, the chance of success is likely to be almost zero.
Given the potential downsides of not being able to create long term social groups, and the huge chance of failure I believe that players are likely better to use trade chat in a major city to find a group or members. This way they can be specific about what they need or expect from a player and will always get players from their own server. This will allow for the potential of creating long term bonds with those players and the potential to raid together over and over again.

Today we are going to take a look at the upcoming of the Star Wars: The Old Republic Trooper Class. Now view the detailed below: During this year's GDC I got a chance to head out to the super secret LucasArts headquarters for a sit down and demo of their much-anticipated upcoming MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic. We have interviews and further coverage coming later, but for now, we wanted to give you a look into the game from the player's point of view. Being that the demo time was short and only the Trooper class was available for play at the moment, I'll do my best to give you a feel of the game and talk about some of the abilities the Trooper showed off while blasting away at thugs in Ord Mantell.
The characters we were given for the demo were already specced out and equipped with some pretty good gear. We were not max level by any means, and started by running around on the planet of Ord Mantell. The customization options must be widely varied, because my Trooper looked like he ate one too many burgers while sitting in some intergalatic diner.
Still, the armor set looked great and definitely had that Star Wars feel to it, something the team at Bioware and LucasArts are working very hard to capture in the game. I was equipped with a pretty heavy blaster rifle which has a rocket launcher on it and some grenades that stuck to the targets when I threw them. These features were all specific to the Trooper class making him a great ranged and AoE fighter. If enemies got too close, I was able to knock them down with the butt of my blaster and continue shooting as they tried to pick themselves up. Also on the SW:TOR Trooper Class, several different styles of shots were available to choose from. The Hammer Shot, from what I remember, was a great burst of lasers which pummeled my foes.
Equipped and ready we went to get our first quest in the game by chatting with an NPC outside a faction base which was separated from the Republic. The dialogue was very typical of Bioware games. You had your list of options to choose from, but the fully loaded voice interaction made things actually move faster. This was a concern of mine going into the demo. As much as I love Dragon Age, after a while the voice options got to be a little too much. Getting the quest and getting into the action worked much faster than I thought.
Turns out, we had to make contact with a few characters inside a base to shut down a force field. There was more to it, but between talking to the LucasArts guys while playing the game, I missed a little. The point is though that the voice over stuff moved faster than I thought and the choices were quick and easy to select.
So, here I am ready to go and blast my way into the base to shut down this force field. I came up on the first group of NPCs. Several of them were standing around a speeder craft of some kind. I targeted one of them and BAM! Let the lasers fly! Oh wait, what? All four of them started attacking me. Two with blasters and two with vibro-blades came charging in after me. So I chose the close combat ones first. I launched a rocket into one of the sword wielding attackers and blew him clean up. Next, I landed my grenade onto the other melee fighter which beeped louder and louder until it exploded, knocking him dead. Now it was time for the other two attackers. I jumped behind the speeder and kept blasting away with my Hammer shots into the shooters. One went down fairly quickly and my rocket launcher cool down ended so I was able to take the other one out with a quick blast.
So my first combat in The Old Republic was in the books. It was fast paced and fun. It held to the standard MMO gameplay we know and love and worked very well. One thing about the SW:TOR Trooper I found out was that while they are not a "cover class" like, say, the Smuggler. While players can use some pieces of cover no matter what class they play, some are better at it than others. In another fight, I was able to run behind a pillar and hide from laser fire. This was great as in many MMOs the blasts would just shoot me straight through the cover anyway. That was not the case here. The combat definitely had a Star Wars feel with the sounds of blaster fire all around. I was impressed with how quickly the combat moved. I had feared that I'd be standing still and firing away, but I was constantly on the move.
I made my way through the base and near where the force field was set up. The map system they had set up for the demo was a good one. The interface looked like something from Star Wars and had clear directions on where to go. It was a blue digital looking map with yellow markers for some of the quest objectives. On my way into the base I passed a very cool looking walker vehicle which was surrounded by battle droids. So I took a shot at one. While a little tougher than the NPCs I had been blasting, the battle droid went down quickly when I hit him with my grenade. It is very cool to see the pulsing beeps of the grenade as it sticks to your target. Beep, Beep, BEEP, BOOM! The droids looked cool and again with the background of the base, walkers, and attack droids, the Star Wars feel was all around.
Inside the base, I followed the map to my main point where I spoke to the NPC involved. After arguing with him a bit (again the choices are all there for your responses when you talk), he gave away three of his comrades who were the ones controlling the force field. I did not choose to blast him outright, but the option was there. I laughed at how my Sith Warrior will eventually answer those scenarios....primarily with his light saber. Anyway, I went after the three separatists and found them huddled together by a control panel. This battle worked out to be a mini boss fight. I took on three characters and was able to walk away with only a few blasts to my armor. They did get me down to half health though. You can also choose to sit and recharge as a Trooper, a skill that helped me after the bosses were down and the room respawned with NPC attackers. After shutting down the force field I was able to make it outside with some serious blasting power and a few rockets from my launcher.
My overall impressions of the hands on demo were good. I was not jumping up and down, but I was also not playing my chosen class. The game definitely impressed with its feel of Star Wars as well as its fast paced game play. I did not have to wait to shoot as my timers cooled down. I also had a lot of skills to choose from if things got rough. The melee knock down and grenades were great in fighting multiple attackers. Though the demo was short, it delivered. We look forward to much more from Star Wars: The Old Republic in the coming months.

Today we are going to talk about the WoW Valithria. Do you want to heal the WoW Valithria Dreamwalker? Read the content below, you will know what you can do to heal it. If you've been raiding much in WotLK, you've seen quite the spectrum of 'new' mechanics. While Naxxramas was just a refresh of the old level 60 dungeon, the other raid instances have provided some truly unique fights. The vehicle fight, which started with Malygos and was followed up by Flame Leviathan, gave us the opportunity to step outside our abilities for a few moments, and work with an entirely new (or even nonexistent) healing toolbox. We've also seen fights where healing was the wrong thing to do, with the case-in-point being Anub'arak (specifically on heroic). Healing the wrong target on that fight was literally anti-DPS, as it healed the boss. Icecrown Citadel brings with it several new mechanics, with one specifically that I am sure will be remembered for many expansions to come. That encounter, as you may have guessed, is the escape of the WoW Valithria Dreamwalker. Blizzard decided to try some role reversal on this fight, and put healers in charge of 'taking care' of the boss. Instead of killing the boss, however, we must heal her to full, allowing her to escape the dark, cold halls of Icecrown. The DPS are relegated to handling adds, which is their least favorite job, while we get to focus our efforts on a single, stable target, to whom we can do no overhealing. How can it get any better than that? Pre-game: I'd also recommend gathering a few Seal of Light and Seal of Wisdom glyphs while you're in town. You can usually get these made pretty cheaply, and just swap in Seal of Light for Valithria, and swap back to Seal of Wisdom afterwards. The glyph will be very handy when you're first learning this fight, though it's not strictly necessary once your group is comfortable with the encounter. Speaking of glyphs, make sure you're using Glyph of Holy Light, as it is mandatory for healing this fight the right way. You'll want to have a spell power flask ready to go, possibly grab a Potion of Wild Magic, and finally go buy a Libram of Veracity. They're only 25 Emblems of Triumph, which you likely have a ton of, and they'll boost your SP by a decent amount. Let your inner DPS class take over First, always remember that you have infinite mana on this fight. Recast Beacon as often as you see fit to guarantee 100% uptime, don't cast anything besides Holy Light (or maybe Lay on Hands), and never stop healing. You're going for all-out HPS, don't waste time with Sacred Shield or Flash of Light. The proper healing tactic for this fight is to put your Beacon on Valithria, stand near her body, and heal yourself. This will produce a large Glyph of Holy Light proc on her, as well as replicating the entire heal to her via Beacon. Glyph of Holy Light dips into the healing modifiers more than once, since it's based off your original huge heal, and again since the glyph heal itself is modified. I've had the glyph do as much as 30% of my overall healing on this fight. Open the fight by popping all of your cooldowns and practicing your maximum HPS burn. Use Avenging Wrath, any trinkets you have, Divine Illumination (if you have your 2 piece), and spam Holy Light on yourself with Valithria under your Beacon. Don't worry about your mana at all, burn through it all if you need to. You can get a few percentage points of healing done here before the fight even starts, and this will buy you a ton of buffer room later on. You'll be focusing on healing Valithria after each portal phase, I purposefully try not to heal the raid at all. The healers on the outside expect to be doing it alone, and the quicker that the boss is fully healed, the less healing they have to do as well. The dream portals I consider a 5-cloud portal phase a success, although you can get around 10 per phase once you really know the fight well. Anywhere from 5-10 will have you getting plenty of stacks to end the encounter before the hard enrage. The key to this encounter is refreshing your Emerald Vigor stack every time you enter and exit the portal. Once inside, immediately grab a cloud to refresh your stack. Try to hit a cloud during the last 2-3 seconds of Dream State to ensure it lasts as long as possible outside. They recently buffed the length of Emerald Vigor to make this easier, but it still takes some practice. Between portal phases, I like to rebeacon Valithria, stand next to her, and spam Holy Light as usual. If done properly, you can heal several % per phase this way, instead of trying to heal her all at once during a Bloodlust phase. The one catch is that you'll want to be refreshing Judgements of the Pure for maximum HPS, so try to judge one of the adds at least once a minute to maintain the buff. Otherwise, just chain-cast Holy Light while looking for the next portal spawn area. You should be looking to have the boss at about 75% life once you have 30 or so stacks of Emerald Vigor, and that's when you should start preparing for the HPS burn phase. Welcome guys, now let us do a EQ2 Brewday Walkthrough together. The brewday 2010 is in game now through March 22nd. Get in on the fun by visiting your local portal into the Bar of Brell. These portals can be found in Antonica near the North Qeynos gate, in the Commonlands near the gate to West Freeport, in Greater Faydark next to the stables, and in Gorowyn at the docks. You'll find several quests inside the Bar of Brell plus you can get a quest from the Avatar of Below that roams in Antonica this time of year.
Quests are available even if you've completed them in previous years. New rewards are offered, some useful, some fun, and some just to pretty up your house. Get in game this week and check it out and have some fun!

Prove your worth by streaking across Butcherblock docks by using the liquid courage. Talk with Tumpy's spirit again once you have completed your humiliation to score the goods.

Brews Across Norrath
This is the special collection quest offered for the Brewday event. Harvest purple shinies in bars, taverns, and various places that offer a stiff drink across Norrath.
This is one collection quest, but the collection items are basically found in sets of three. They are found in more than just these locations, but the following are the areas that we have confirmed:
The first three can be found at city inns in Qeynos, Freeport, Kelethin, Gorowyn, and Neriak.
The second three can be found inside the Bar of Brell, Somborn Village, market in Maj'dul, and at the bar in the Moors of Ykesha,
The final three can be found on the Butcherblock docks, at the Blackburrow Brewery, Thundering Steppes Docks, and in Windstalker Village.

Which kind of way you like when you play the EVE Online? I know that it has a mix of both EVE Casual and Hardcore Players. Taking part in things like alliance warfare, starbase industry or corporate management may require that a player log in every night but most other avenues of gameplay don't. A lot of EVE's gameplay can be picked up for a few hours and set back down with no added responsibility. In fact, player demographic data shows that most players prefer to live in the more casual environment of high security space. So what kind of things can you do if you just fancy playing internet spaceships for a few hours?
In this opinion piece, I look at five of my favourite ways to kill a few hours in the name of EVE. What's your favourite way to spend a few hours? Level 4 missions: ![]() For many empire-dwelling players, level 4 combat missions are their bread and butter. Missions bring in a steady flow of ISK that can go toward replacing future ship losses or upgrading to more expensive faction and deadspace modules. Combat missions are a great way to spend a while just shooting at high-bounty NPCs in the safety of high security space. As missions don't usually take several hours to complete and they can be postponed for days if needed, casual mission-runners will find themselves with a refreshing lack of responsibility. Some players get bored with level 1 and 2 missions and consequently don't make their way up to the more interesting level 3 and 4 versions. My advice would be to blitz level 1 and 2 missions as quickly as possible, ignoring any loot, so that you can get your standings up quickly. With the basic social skills trained up a few levels, you'll be onto the more challenging missions in no time at all. Planning and design: ![]() The EVE community is a diverse collection of people, among them programmers and web-developers. With CCP providing access to important data through an API system, a whole range of useful player-made tools are available. There are tools to plan your character's skill training, organise your assets, plan industrial tasks and more. When not playing EVE, one of my favourite things to do is to fire up EVE Fitting Tool and design fantasy ships. EVE Fitting Tool, or EFT for short, lets you design virtual ship setups and test them with your character's skills or a theoretical maximum-skill character. It gives important stats such as damage per second, how long the capacitor will last, resistances, effective hitpoints and how much damage the tank can absorb. Prior to the tool's release, I often spent hours in a trade hub wasting ISK on modules to tweak a single setup. These days I occasionally find myself spending the better part of an evening on EFT tweaking strategic cruiser setups or trying to get a little more out of the Dominix. Exploration: ![]() The exploration system uses probes to find cosmic anomalies, pirate complexes and profession sites that you can complete for some good ISK. Finding a 3/10 or 4/10 DED complex in high security space is particularly good news as the end boss drops rare deadspace gear that can be worth over a hundred million ISK. When probing down sites, you're likely to also find a lot of wormholes, which can be equally lucrative. When I talk about wormholes, I usually recommend organised, long-term expeditions with starbases. Those can be lucrative and fun but the truth is that you don't really need to live in a wormhole system to take advantage of its resources. One in every two or three systems in highsec should have a wormhole leading to a class 1, 2 or 3 Sleeper system. If you can find a relatively empty patch of high security space to scan, you're also a bit less likely to be accosted inside the wormhole by an exploring pirate. Wormhole systems are particularly well known for their massive asteroid belts with ore you'd normally only find deep in alliance-owned nullsec systems. Socialising: ![]() It's said that EVE is partly a social networking tool and as a social gamer, I'd have to agree. In EVE, who you know is often much more important than what you know. Having a group of friends to rely on and play with can be the difference between getting bored of the game or getting hooked on it. EVE provides a variety of social tools, from chat channels and EVE Voice to corporations and forums. Players make use of these tools to form small, close communities that can be great to be a part of. EVE Radio is a perfect example of such a community, having been actively involved in EVE since as far back as I can remember. They run a professional-sounding web-radio channel with EVE players featuring as DJs, talk show hosts and guests. DJs occasionally run competitions and events from the "EVE Radio" chat channel that can be really fun. Faction Warfare: ![]() In days gone by, getting into a PvP gang meant being part of a PvP-oriented corporation or alliance. PvP operations were usually planned well in advance and could take more time to get started than the action itself would last. For those interested in small gang PvP with minimal planning, piracy and corporate warfare were the only real options. With the Empyrean Age expansion, the release of Faction Warfare added another choice for those looking for instant-action PvP. Players may enlist their corp in one faction's militia or join an NPC militia corp to enter the war. It takes up to 24 hours to enter but from that point on, you can shoot at militia members in the opposing faction and have access to your faction's militia chat channel. Small PvP gangs constantly form up throughout the day and go looking for trouble in various contested areas of low security space. With a little preparation in the form of pre-fitting some replacement ships, this is PvP that you can hop into for an hour or two whenever you like. Summary: Whether you're a casual empire-dwelling player or an EVE junkie looking for something to do on his off-hours, everyone finds themselves with a few hours to burn in EVE. There are plenty of gameplay options that can be picked up for few hours whenever you feel like it without requiring long-term commitments or forcing you to log in and play regularly. Break news here for you! The new STO New Playable Factions will be coming after GDC this year. So what factions are coming? They aren't sure yet, though Craig does admit many of the development team are interested in introducing Romulans to the game: The most exciting thing was news of a new playable faction in Star Trek Online. We can expect that sometime "within the year", and we as players get to help decide. Borg, Romulan, it's up to you guys. Zinkievich says: There's a huge amount of the dev team right now interested in doing Romulan. I think the Borg would be really interesting as just something totally different, totally different gameplay. There are a lot of really cool mechanics, a lot of really cool things you can do there. Really, if you're in the MMO for the long haul, there are going to be a lot more playable factions, you can't stop with those two. There's Jem'Hadar, you're going to be going to the Dominion, there's Cardassians [...] so many playable factions that we can and will be releasing with the game. Cryptic is looking at the next big update to arrive for Star Trek Online around July, with another possibly near November: "We know that we just had a player survey when you first arrive at the site, and, like, ship interiors. [Players] want a whole lot more there, want a whole lot more functionality, why are other players coming to my ship, what's going on there? So we're making sure in July that's one of the things that we do. There's a big huge outcry for first contact missions, diplomacy missions, more non-combat within Star Trek, so we're really making sure with that July update we're really focusing on that."
